Problem Solving Courses and the Problem of the Week Environment<\/p>\n

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM, 1989, 1991, 2000) focuses on problem solving as the basis of learning and conceptualizing new mathematical knowledge and as a fundamental motivating factor for studying mathematics. The NCTM (2000) Principles and Standards for School Mathematics <\/em>clearly stated the following:<\/p>\n
